The Leeds-Liverpool Canal bridge can be seen at the bottom of the picture, and Riley Green Interchange is just out of frame at the top. Between them, a deep cutting has been formed, with some excavation still to do. Material from the cutting has been brought west, towards the bottom of this photo, to form the embankment approaching the canal bridge.
